Minerva Lyon

"I believe this photo was taken shortly before my Minerva Lyon married my grandfather was Charles Henry Hartnell. He was from Stacyville, Iowa, and was attending Iowa State College in Ames, IA when he met Minerva. Minerva attended Upper Iowa University for at least one year, 1908-1909. At UIU she became a close friend of Martha Hartnell, Chuck's sister. Minerva visited the Hartnell home in Stacyville on holiday from school and me Chuck there. They married January 17, 1912 in Prophetstown. Minerva died when her son, my father, was 4 years old. Granddad didn't talk much about her and we didn't know anything about the family except that she was from Tampico, IL. One of my four sisters looks nothing like the rest of us, and we always teased her about being someone else's daughter - the milk man, the mail man, etc. When we saw this picture some years later and immediately realized that she looks much like Minerva at the same age."
