Martha Matthews
Martha Matthews, 91, of 638 E Third St., Prophetstown, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 1989 at the Prophets Riverview Center.

Services were Saturday at the Leon United Methodist Church with Steve Hartman, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Leon Cemetery. Vistation was Friday at the Gardner Funeral Chapel, Prophetstown.

A memorial has been established.

Mrs. Matthews was born Dec. 18, 1897 in New Bedford, the daughter of John and Hannah Noon Winkler. She married Howard H. Matthews Feb. 20, 1918, inLeon and he died in 1964. Mrs. Matthews farmed with her husband until they retired in 1961 and moved to Prophetstown. She was a former member and organist of the Minerva Chapter OES, Prophetstown. She was a member of the Leon United Methodist Church where she was the organist for 50 years.

She is survied by two sons, George of Iowa City, Iowa; and Ralph of Prophetstown; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one sister, dorothy Winkler, Sterling; and one brother, Ray winkler, Prophpetstown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Glenn; one sister and two brothers.

Prophetstown:  Martha Matthews, 91, 638 E. Third St., died today at the Prophets Riverview Center.
 
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Leon United Methodist with Steve Hartman, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Gardner Funeral Chapel.
