Marvin R. Spears Sr.

Marvin R. “Tom” Spears Sr., age 93, of Amboy died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Amboy Rehab. & Nursing Center in Amboy.



Visitation was on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy. Cremation will follow with burial of cremains at a later date in Glendale Cemetery in Fillmore.



Mr. Spears was born Feb. 17, 1915, in Bond County, the son of Joseph Levi and Nellie (Harrison) Spears. He married Gladys L. Stout Oct. 23, 1937, in St. Louis, Mo. She preceded him in death Oct. 31, 2005.



Survivors include his children James (Carol) Spears of Prophetstown, Jerry (Barbara) Spears of Sheffield, Mary Ann (Marvin) Murphy of Port Byron, Roger Spears of Lee Center, Marvin (Lisa) Spears of Amboy; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; sisters Jackie Chumley of Coffeen, Lela Stout and Betty McBride, both of Bethany.



He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Spears; a son, Thomas Otto Spears; one grandson; two great-granddaughters; and five brothers, Virgil, Dean, Dake, Huck, and Joe Spears.



He had been a farmer and had also worked at Conco in Mendota prior to his retirement.



A memorial has been established.
