            Merwyn J. “Mert” Van Zuiden

 

            Merwyn J. “Mert” Van Zuiden, 68, of Lyndon, IL passed away Monday, June 30, 2008 at his home. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 3 at the Morrison Chapel – Bosma–Renkes Funeral Home. Rev. Judi Huseth, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sterling officiated. Burial was in Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL. Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice, Clinton, IA.

            Merwyn was born April 17, 1940 to William and Anna (Van Zuiden) Van Zuiden in Morrison, IL. He was educated in the Cottonwood Grade School of rural Whiteside County. He attended Fulton and Morrison High Schools.

            He married Leta Landheer on December 31, 1967 in Sterling, IL. She survives. He was employed as mechanic at the former Morrison Implement. He engaged in farming in the rural Thompson and Morrison, IL areas. Most recently, he worked at Fenton Co-op in Fenton, IL until his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.

            Survivors include his wife Leta; one daughter, Mindy (Frank) West, Estes park, CO; two sons, Scott Van Zuiden, Morrison, IL, Todd (Rhonda) Van Zuiden, Bellevue, IA; five grandchildren, Anna & David Johnson, William Erickson, Erick Erickson, Brandon and Bailey Van Zuiden; three great grandchildren, David Johnson, James Herrera, AaronJohnson; one sister, Carol (David) Kuebler, West Lafayette, IN; one brother, Harold (Janice) Van Zuiden, Carroll, IA.

            He was preceded in death by his parents.
