            Carroll R. Dimmick


 


            Carroll Robert Dimmick, age 79, of Thomson, Illinois, died on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at his home.  Funeral services were held Monday, July 7, 2008 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson with Reverend Bonnie Davis officiating.  Burial was in the Lower York Cemetery, Thomson with Military Rites provided by Thomson American Legion Post #1025.  In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Carroll’s name.


            Carroll was born on May 1, 1929, the son of Benjamin Delbert and Bernice (Schade) Dimmick in East Troy, Wisconsin.  The Dimmick family moved to Thomson prior to Carroll’s first birthday.  Carroll graduated from York Community High School with the Class of 1947.  In Carroll’s younger years he received the nickname “Jug”.  He served in the United States Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean War, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.  On October 16, 1953 Carroll married Helen Mae Rapp in Prophetstown, Illinois.


            Carroll was a lifetime Carpenter and for a period of time owned and operated “Dimmick and Sons Construction” working side by side with his sons.  Carroll was a member of the Thomson United Methodist Church and Thomson American Legion.  He was an avid hunter; he enjoyed working in his garden and spending time outdoors.  He loved nature and woodworking.  Most important o Carroll was spending time with his family.  Throughout his life he always practiced his mother’s advice, which was “never lose your sense of humor” and he shared this philosophy with his family. 


            Carroll will be dearly missed by his wife, Helen Dimmick of Thomson; a daughter, Patricia (John) Benson of Iowa City, Iowa; three sons, Craig (Kathy) Dimmick of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, Curt (Alana) Dimmick of Baker, Nevada and Kevin (Connie) Dimmick of Mt. Carroll; ten grandchildren; Tnia (Greg) Pallardy, Tammy (Matt) Hale, Tracy (Kelcy) Hutchinson, Kierstin, Kyler, Kaileine, and Koltin Dimmick, Allison, Ryan, and Jared Benson ; four great grandchildren, Grayson Hale, Kailyn Hutchison, Jack and Drew Pallardy; a brother, Ben (Elsie) Dimmick of Camanche, Iowa; several nieces, nephews and cousins.


            Carroll was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Nellie Moeszinger and a brother, John Dimmick.  Online condolences and memorial tributes may be sent to the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com
