Mrs. Christine Gilkey Dies on West Coast


Mrs. Christine S. Gilkey, 81, died Sunday evening in Coravallis, Ore., where she had resided for a number of years.


She was a sister of Mrs. Elizabeth Carroll, who resided in Sterling.


The body will be brought to Rock Falls Friday and friends may call at the Wheelock Funeral Home Saturday morning.


Saturday at 2 p.m., Rev. Donald Comnick, pastor of the Rock Falls Lutheran Church, will officiate at graveside services in the Yorktown Cemetery where burial will be held.


Mrs. Gilkey was born April 17, 1875, in Bureau County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Barenthin. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Carroll; two brothers, William Barenthin in Wisconsin and Edward Barenthin, ow residing in Minnesota.


She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Albert Smith of Princeton; her second husband, John Gilkey, Oregon; two sisters and three brothers.
