JAMES A.  NAFTZGER

 

Prophetstown: - James A. Naftzger, 50, of 0559 Lyndon Road, Prophetstown, died April 24, 1994, as a result in injuries received in a single vehicle accident.

 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Prophetstown, with the Rev. Jeffrey Clements, pastor, officating. Burial will be at Leon Cemetery, rural Prophetstown.

 

Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  A memorial has been establlished to Self Help Enterprises, Sterling.

 

Mr. Naftzger was born Aug. 14, 1943 in Morrison, the son of Ralph and Joyce (Plumley) Naftzger. He graduated from Prophetstown High School in 1961. He had been employed for many years as an over-the-road truck driver for Northwestern Steel and Wire Co., Sterling.  He was currently employed as a truck driver for Roadway Express, Inc., Rock Island. He was a member of the Rock River Lodge #612 AF & AM, Sterling, where he had served as worshipful master in 1985 and 1986, a member of the Moline Consistory, and a 27 year member of Teamsters Local #371, Rock Island.

 

Survivors include two sons, James L. (Bliss) Naftzger and Michael W. Naftzger, both of Prophetstown; two grandchildren; and his mother of Prophetstown.

 

He was preceded in death by his father March 5, 1989.
