Eugene M.Hansen, age 90, of Walnut, Illinois died Thursday January 7, 2010 at the Walnut Manor Nursing Home.

Gene was born on April 27, 1919 in Van Orin, Illinois the son of Martin and Esther (Damon) Hansen. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Giesenhagen on February 12, 1947 in Ohio, Illinois. He was a member of Ohio United Methodist Church, Walnut Masonic Lodge #722 AF&AM, Princeton Chapter #28 of R.A.M., Ohio Council #8 of Princeton, Temple Commandery #20, Knights York Cross of Honor, Friendship Chapter, O.E.S. of Ohio, Illinois. He was the Ohio Township supervisor for 12 years, served on the Kasbeer Elevator Board for 30 years, was Director of Bureau County Farm Bureau Board for 8 years and a member of the Walnut American Legion Post #179. Gene farmed in the Ohio, Illinois area for 35 years and retired in 1984. He worked for Garland Funeral Home for the past 25 years, and read water meters for the Village of Walnut for many years. He enjoyed gardening and serving his community.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn, one son Delmar (Colleen) Hansen of Walnut, Illinois; one daughter Loretta (Roger) Bachman of Hopedale, Illinois; six grandchildren; one brother Howard Hansen of Dixon, Illinois, one sister Charlene Terhorst of Danvers, Illinois; numerous nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, twin granddaughters, step mother, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday January 15, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. at Garland Funeral Home in Walnut with the Rev. Paul Nolden, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Walnut and Rev Eldon Cook, pastor of Community Bible Church, co-officiating. Burial will be at Van Orin Repose Cemetery in Van Orin, Illinois. Visitation will be held on Friday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. A MEMORIAL HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED IN HIS MEMORY TO WALNUT FIRE DEPARTMENT, THE WALNUT MANOR NURSING HOME, AND OHIO UNITED METHODIST CHURCH. Condolences may be sent to www.garlandfuneralhome.com.
