Early Sunday morning the people of Prophetstown were sadly shocked by the news that Jim Scarritt, one of the old citizens of that place, had hung himself. Mr. Scarritt had seemed very despondent for several weeks but no one thought that the result would be so tragic. About 4:30 a.m. he arose and went out of doors and was not seen again until he was found by the hired man, hanging from a beam in the hay mow. ***end of obit***
