Mrs. Geo. Reese Dies, In Home of Daughter

Prophetstown: - Mrs. George Reese, 83, died at 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 1947, in the home of her daughter, Mrs. George W. Nelson, Prophetestown.  Mrs. Reese had been in failing health for a number of years.

The remains were removed to the Gardner Mortuary and will repose in the chapel where friends may call. The funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Gardner Chapel, the Rev. William W. Nelson officiating. Committal will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Rudie Grace Gier was born March 26, 1864 in Munson Township, south of Geneseo, the daughter of Elza and Caroline Dow Gier.  She attended schools at Osco, Cambridge and Wyoming, Ill. 

She was married Dec. 21, 1887 to George Reese in the home of her step-father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Tomlinson at Osco. They resided at Colona for three years, then moved to a farm five miles south of Prophetstown remaining until retiring to their home in Prophetstown.  They celebrated their golden wedding in December 1937 in their daughter's home.  Following her husband's death in 1941, Mrs. Reese lived with her daughter until her death.  She was a member of the Methodist Church, the WSCS and Minerva chapter of the OES.

She is survived by the daughter, Mrs. Avis Nelson; one son, Ralph R. Reese, who resides in the Nelson home; one sister, Mrs. Pearl McNeil of Dixon; one half-brother, Duane Tomlinson of Tekamah, Neb.; one half-sister, Mrs. Mabel Arnett of Galesburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one child in infancy, one sister and one half-brother.
