Edith Stewart

PROPHETSTOWN – Edith Elvira Stewart, 103, of Prophetstown, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center.

She was born Aug. 9, 1906, in Franklin Grove, the daughter of Walter Edward and Pearl Lunetta (Teach) Fox. Mrs. Stewart was a 1924 graduate of Lyndon High School, and a 1927 graduate of the University of Illinois, with a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics.

She taught school in Aliquippa, Pa., for 13 years, until 1940.

She married Kenneth Stewart on June 14, 1941, in the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. He died May 10, 1974. Mrs. Stewart was a member of Leon United Methodist Church, and enjoyed cooking, arts, crafts, antiques, family history, watching football, and watching and feeding the birds.

Surviving is her daughter, Beverley Stewart of Urbana; two nephews, Walt Manske and Fred Manske; and two nieces, Anna Marie Brethorst and Sarah Redding.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Stewart; one daughter, Sara Stewart; three sisters, Harriett Manske, Anna Marie Belt and Marion Downing; and two nephews, Robert Belt and Robert Manske.

Funeral service will be at noon Wednesday at Leon United Methodist Church, Prophetstown. Burial will be at Leon Cemetery, Whiteside County. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home, 46 Grove St., state Route 78 North, Prophetstown.
