A. Dwight Oetzel, 82, of Prophetstown, died Friday, Sept. 24, at St. Anthony's Medical Center, Rockford, Ill.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, in the Prophetstown United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Insun Yoon officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 29, at the McDonald Funeral Home, Prophetstown. Cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the Prophetstown United Methodist Church.

Dwight was born Feb. 9, 1928, in Prophetstown, the son of Albert and Esther Johnson Oetzel. He married Lois H. Egert on Aug. 17, 1947, in Prophetstown. She survives.

He farmed for 63 years in the Prophetstown area. He was a member of the Prophetstown United Methodist Church and held numerous positions over the years. He enjoyed raising cattle and showed them in 4-H as a youth. He had a passion for farming and he loved woodworking. He was a member of the Prophetstown Lions Club, Whiteside County Farm Bureau and the Whiteside County Cattle Feeders Association. He also served on the board of the Farmers National Bank of Prophetstown.

His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; four daughters, Anita Oetzel, Prophetstown, Nina Roth, Walla Walla, Wash., Rhonda (Vic) Dunes, Mesa, Ariz., and Glenna (David) Spotts, Racine, Wis.; four grandchildren, Jeremy (Megan) Roth, Erica (Nick Genereux) Roth, Christie (Michael) Bartzen and Andrew Spotts; and two great-grandchildren, Maggie Roth and Jacob Bartzen. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Irene Ward.
