VIRGIL  L.  PETERSON

Tampico: - Virgil L. Peterson, 87, of 204 E. Third St., Tampico, died Dec. 15, 1993, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling.  Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Garland Funeral Home, Tampico, with the Rev. Norma J. VanderMeer, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Yorktown, officiating.  Burial will be at Tampico Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established to Tampico Ambulance and Tampico Fire Department.

Mr. Peterson was born Oct. 30, 1906 in Tampico, the son of Oscar and Hilma Lundquist Peterson.  He married Fern K. Carlson in June of 1930. She died March 10, 1970.  He then married Caroline Lou Frank Aug. 3, 1974, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Yorktown.  He farmed in the Tampico area until 1955 when he retired and was a carpenter until retirement in 1974.  He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Yorktown, was a 35-year member of Tampico Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Sterling Moose Club.

Survivors include his wife of Tampico; one son, Laverne (Stan) Peterson of Sterling; one stepson, Glenn Frank of Morrison; two step-daughters, Mrs. Richard (Bendetta) Fuller of Erie and Betty Frank of Wheeling; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Vernon Peterson of Prophetstown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, one sister and one brother.
