William Bumphrey of Tampico Dies

Tampico:  - William David Bumphrey, 60, died Saturday morning at Community General Hospital, Sterling, after a lengthy illness. 

Mr. Bumphrey was born Jan. 1, 1905, the son of Henry and Sara Jane Bumphrey, at Neponset.  He attended schools in Neponset.  He was a member of Neponset Methodist Church.  He was married to Dorothy Taylor, in Princeton, in November, 1925.  He had lived in and around Tampico for 25 years.

He is survived by his wife of Tampico, five daughters, Mrs. Laverne (Marjorie) Landseidel, Mrs. Wayne (Doris) Bryan, Mrs. Norden (Mary) Scanlon, Mrs. Ronald (Kathryn) Scanlon, all of Tampico; and Mrs. Bert (Alice) Cornstubble, Prophetstown;  three sons, William, Jr. of Rockford, John of Byron, and Jerry Lee, Tampico; five sisters, Mrs. Conrad Nanninga, and Mrs. Claude Peed, Kewanee; Mrs. Victor Knapp, Rock Island; Mrs. Wallace Fellows and Mrs. Henry Nanninga of Mineral; three brothers, Pearl, Galva; Ray and Henry of Kewanee; 26 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, one brother in infancy, one son in infancy, one grandson, and two granddaughters.

Funeral services will be held May 4, at 2 p.m. at the Schmitt Funeral Chapel, Tampico, with the Rev. Joseph Stoube of the Baptist Church officiating.  Burial will be in Tampico Memorial Cemetery.
