Tampico - Albert R. Kolling Jr., age 78 , of Rock Falls, Illinois and formerly of Yorktown, Illinois died Thursday, March 10, 2011 at his home .

Al was born on July 27, 1932 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Albert R. and Hildagarde F. (Schmolder) Kolling Sr. He was united in marriage to Lorraine A. Tuite on September 13, 1958 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and she preceded him in death on March 26, 1998. He then married Fran (Kulas) Calsyn in Morrison, Illinois on April 27, 2001. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was employed at John Deere for 25 1/2 years as an experimental sheet metal mechanic, retiring on August 31, 1992. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tampico, Illinois, Alcoholics Anonymous since 1980, Tampico American Legion and organized the Centennial singers for the Tampico Centennial. He participated in Walnut Community Theatre in Walnut, Illinois, the Camelot Dinner Theatre at Emerald Hill Country Club in Sterling, Illinois and was employed at Garland Funeral Home in Tampico since 1993.

He is survived by his wife Fran Kolling of Rock Falls, Illinois; four sons Albert R. Kolling, III of Rockford, Illinois, Robert J. “Merf” Kolling of Chicago, Illinois, Christian J. (Jennifer) Kolling of Mount Morris, Illinois, Peter J. Kolling of Tampico, Illinois; two daughters Lorry A. (Wesley) Paver of East Peoria, Illinois; and Colleen A. (Douglas) Johnson of Janesville, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Lorraine, one son in infancy, and one brother in infancy.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tampico with the Rev. Louis Tosto, officiating. Military rites will be accorded immediately following the funeral mass. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico, with a prayer service at 6:45 p.m. Cremation rites will be accorded after the services. Burial of cremains will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery at a later date. A MEMORIAL HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED TO THE TAMPICO FIRE DEPARTMENT AND ALCHOLICS ANONYMOUS.
