LEVI  HOPKINS

Levi Hopkins Buried At Yorktown Sunday

The funeral services of the late Levi Hopkins were held Sunday afternoon at the Yorktown Church, Rev. De Voll of Walnut officiating, and interment made in Fairfield Cemetery at Yorktown.  Members of the G.A.R. had charge of the services at the grave.  There was a very large attendance of friends to pay the last tributes of respect to an old friend and neighbor, the church being too small to accommodate all who came.

Levi Hopkins was born in Cayuga County, N.Y. in 1834, and came west when a young man, settling near Yorktown.  He was twice married, both wives and three children having preceded him in death.  He was the last of a family of eight children.  He was taken ill a short time past while at the home of his brother, Leonard Hopkins, near Yorktown, and passed away by a strange coincidence in the same house in which he began housekeeping more than a half century ago.  He was a veteran of the civil war, during which he served his country faithfully, after the close of the war returning to this vicinity where the larger part of his life was spent.  He possessed the esteem and friendship of a large number of friends and was known to both young and old by the affectionate name of "Uncle Levi," and his death will be felt by the many who enjoyed his friendship.
