FERN  ELIZABETH  (Whipple)  KNAPP  - 76, of 1304 Douglas Drive, Sterling, died Oct. 15, 1991 at CGH Medical Center, Sterling, following a long illness.  Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Allen Funeral Home, Sterling, with the Rev. Dalmus Meeks, pastor of Harvest Time Bible Church, Rock Falls, officiating.  Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  A memorial has been established to Harvest Time Bible Church, Rock Falls.

Mrs. Knapp was born Oct. 17, 1914 in Tampico, the daughter of Stacey and Mamie (Elgin) Whipple. She married Gilbert Knapp Sept. 29, 1972 in Sterling.  He died Feb. 27, 1983. She had been employed at Lawrence Brothers in Sterling for 27 years prior to her retirement in 1980.  She attended Harvest Time Bible Church, Rock Falls. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW of Sterling and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

She is survived by three nephews, Mike Book of Sterling, Larry Book of Clermont, Fla., and Jerry Book of San Jose, Calif.; one brother, Stacey Whipple, Hazel Park, Mich.; three sister, Sylvia Dahler, Maquoketa, Iowa; Evelyn Striklin and Doris Felton, both of Conchino Valley, Calif.  She was preceded in death by one sister.
