Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2010 at Bethel A.M. Church.

OSCAR ELDON HOSTETLER, beloved husband of Rachel (Headings) Hostetler, son of Herman and Laura (Unzicker) Hostetler was born on March 18, 1924 in Shelbyville, IL. He peacefully passed away at his home at Green Forest, AR on April 9, 2010 at the age of 86 years, 22 days.  

 

He lost his eyesight in 1999. He was in declining health ever since, having a stroke April 21, 2009, followed by a number of mini strokes. From then until now the sons and grandsons helped care for him 24 hours a day. About a week ago he started getting weaker, the last 3 days he was in a hospital bed. April 8, he took a turn for the worse, passing away at 2:15 a.m. on April 9.  

 

He accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and was baptized in his youth and was a member of Bethel A.M. Church, Berryville, AR to which he remained faithful until death. On February 17, 1946 he was united in marriage to Rachel Headings of Tampico, IL, daughter of John and Mary (Kropf) Headings, sharing the joys and sorrows of life together for over 64 years. This union was blessed with 6 sons and 3 daughters. Dwight and wife Violet of Green Forest, AR, Marie and husband Clifford Shrock of Tampico, IL, Harley and wife Verda of Otterville, MO, Leanna and husband Delmar Garretson of Hotchkiss, CO, Arthur and wife Arlene of Green Forest, AR, Leonard and wife Lori of Hotchkiss, CO, Dannie and wife Wilma of Green Forest, AR, Leona and husband Earl Shrock of Deer Grove, IL and Dewey and wife Carrie of Berryville, AR. He leaves to mourn his departure besides his deeply bereaved wife; 46 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 12 step-great-great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Herman and wife Lenora of Deer Grove, IL, Lester and wife Lena of Otterville, MO, Wayne and wife Barbara of Tampico, IL and Leroy and wife Juanita of Harmon, IL; 1 sister, Mary Alice and husband Willard Kropf of Green Forest, AR; 2 sisters-in-law, Beulah of Buffalo, MO wife of Wilmer, deceased and Rosemary of Wickenburg, AR wife of Glen, deceased; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 2 grandsons, and 1 great-granddaughter.  

 

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, April 10th. Also, Sunday, April 11th, 2010 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Bethel A.M. Fellowship Hall. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2010 at Bethel A.M. Church. Interment will follow in the Bethel A.M. Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service, Inc.
