Delmar Bates

PROPHETSTOWN – Delmar W. Bates, 85, of Prophetstown, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at his home. Delmar was employed by Laborers Local 727 in Dixon, retiring in 1988 after 40 years.

Delmar was born Sept. 12, 1926, in Mystic, Iowa, the son of Fay and Vera (Wilson) Bates. He served in the Army during World War II. He married Norma DeLap on July 26, 1952, in Rock Falls.

Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca (Michael) Henry of Harmon and Mardel (Denny) Johnson of Rock Falls; one son, Michael (Denise) Bates of Prophetstown; and 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.

At his request, cremation rites will be accorded and there are no services.

Arrangements were completed by McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls.
