LELA  M.  (Hjertstedt)  TONKINSON

Tampico:  - Mrs. Lela M. Tonkinson, 81, Tampico, died Saturday evening at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights after a long illness.

Funeral services will be Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m at the Allen-Schmitt-Garland Funeral Home in Tampico with Reverend Bradford Wilson, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Tampico, officiating, with burial in Tampico Memorial Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.   A memorial has been established in her memory.

She was born Aug. 29, 1901, in Elmdale, Kan., the daughter of Carl and Mathilda Johnson Hjertstedt. At the age of three the family moved to Chicago. She was educated in the Chicago schools and lived there until she was united in marriage on May 15, 1943, to Asael Tonkinson, Tampico, where they made their home.  He preceded her in death in 1960.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Tampico and the Royal Neighbors of America.

She is survived by two sons, Norman, Tampico and Michael, Chicago; one daughter, Mrs. Jean Tadin, Des Plaines; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and three brothers.
