Vida Shelton, of Henderson, passed away March 9, 2010, at the age of 105. Vida was the daughter of the late George and Frederica Risley Isherwood. She was born Jan. 18, 1905, in Tampico, Ill., where Ronald Reagan was born six
years later. She knew Ronald Reagan and his family. Vida's father, who owned and was editor of the local newspaper, the Tampico Tornado, published Reagan's birth announcement. Vida graduated from Emerson College in Boston with a degree in dramatics. She later taught dramatics at Bradford Junior College in Massachusetts and
then taught elementary school in Illinois and Ohio. In 1926, she drove the Mohawk Trail from Boston to Illinois with four other graduates from Emerson in a Ford touring car. Vida, who has lived in Henderson for the last 10 years, is survived by her daughter, Jane Noll; grandchildren, Anne Mumm and Robert Noll; and great-grandchildren, Matthew Mumm and Emily Hoffmann-Noll. Vida was married to Neil Venters (deceased) and Max Shelton (deceased). A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at Green Valley Presbyterian Church, 1798 Wigwam Parkway, in Henderson. Burial will be at a later date in Rockford, Ill.
