Mrs. Ethel Parent Dies Friday

Mrs. Ethel Parent, 87, of 106 Fremont, Tampico (wife of Mac Parent, former funeral director in Tampico for many years) died Friday morning at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Nursing Center.

Graveside services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m.at theTampico Memorial Cemetery with Rev. George David, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Tampico officiating. Visitation is Saturday from 7-9 p.m. at the Allen-Schmitt-Garland Funeral Home.

She was born Dec. 9, 1890 in Thomas, Ill, the daughter of john and Mary Berge Howlett. She married M. H Parent on August 26, 1917 in the Methodist Parsonage. The couple attended Worsham Mortuary College in Chicago and returned to Tampico to assist Mr. Parent's father in the funeral home. Mr. M. H. Parent ran the business from 1934 to 1961 when he sold it to his nephew, William H. Schmitt. She was a licensed funeral director and embalmer. The couple enjoyed golfing in Walnut for many years.

Survivors include her husband, M. H. Parent of Tampico and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
