MORRISON – Arlene T. Onken, 88, of Morrison, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison.

Arlene was born Oct. 1, 1924, in Prophetstown, the daughter of Roy and Agnes (Springer) Thompson. She married Russell C. Onken on Nov. 15, 1941, in Morrison. He preceded her in death in 2004. Arlene was employed by General Electric for 35 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Morrison, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Whiteside County Genealogical Society. She was on the Morrison Library Board, and was a Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed reading and studying genealogy.

Survivors include two daughters, Vicki (Bruce) Hunter and Terri (Roger) Doering, and one son, Darrell (Pat) Onken, all of Morrison; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sons in infancy, Michael Onken and Mark Onken; one brother, Harry Thompson; one sister, Stevetta Engelkens; and one grandchild, James Alan Hunter. 

A private graveside service will be at a later date at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison. McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be given to Arlene’s favorite pastimes and charities.
