PROPHETSTOWN – Rose E. Johnson, 82, of Prophetstown, died Monday, July 29, 2013, at her son’s home in Lyndon.

She was born Aug. 29, 1930, in Dunlap, Iowa, the daughter of John W. and Edith Pearl (Kessler) Pedersen Sr. She married John W. Wankerl Jr. in 1948, who died in 1989. She married Edwin R. Johnson in 1956, who died in 1990. Then, for 28 years, she lived with her companion, Wallace A. Stern, who died in 2009.

Surviving are two daughters, Judy K. Paceley of Gainesville, Fla., and Deborah (Jay) Bratton of Lake Villa; four sons, Anthony M. (Dixie) Johnson of Kewanee, Vernon J. (Susie) Wankerl of Springfield, Steven A. (Brenda) Wankerl of Prophetstown, and Neil A. Johnson (Lindy Greenwood) of Lyndon; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth A. Starr; a son, Edward W. Johnson; three sisters; three brothers; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at McDonald Funeral Home, 46 Grove St., Prophetstown. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Lyndon Historical Society Building (the former First Congregation Church) with the Rev. Paul Laird, pastor of Tampico Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be at Lyndon Cemetery.

A memorial will be established.
