DIXON – Daniel Daniel J. Burke Jr.J. Burke Jr., 81, of Dixon died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, surrounded by his family.

He was born Aug. 16, 1932, in Sublette, the son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Antoine) Burke in Lee County’s May Township.He was a farmer and had worked in building and sales of farm buildings.He had also worked at Ashton Public Schools and Crest Foods in Ashton before his retirement in 1996.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon and the Knights of Columbus Council 690.

Daniel married Mary Jean Stenzel on April 18, 1953.She preceded him in death Nov. 11, 1994.He then married Vivian Goy at Immaculate Conception Church in Ohio, Ill., on Dec. 2, 1995.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ellen Murray and Margaret “Peg” Friel, and three brothers, Joseph, Francis, and Edward Burke.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian;children, Mike (Sue) Burke of Chana, Kathy (Larry) Yocum of Franklin Grove, Karen (Ed) Baylor of Ashton, and Janine (Mark) Eykamp of Dixon;stepchildren, Yvonne (Joe) Rakowski of Ohio, Greg (Meg) Goy of Oregon;eight grandchildren;five step-grandchildren;five great-grandchildren;nine step-great-grandchildren;two sisters, Sr. Regina Johnson, S.L. of Nerinx, Ky., and twin sister, Elizabeth “Betty” (WilliamWidolff of Rock Falls;and two sisters-in-law, Darlene Burke of Mendota and Lu Burke of Dixon.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy, with a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon, with the Rev. William Budden officiating.Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.

A memorial has been established to Serenity Home and Hospice in Oregon.
