Horace F. Snitchler

Horace F. Snitchler, 80, of Cambridge, IL., formerly of Rock Falls and Aurora passed away Monday, March 22, 2004 at Trinity West Medical Center, Rock Island, IL. Horace was born on December 20, 1923 in Rankin, IL., the son of Andrew M. and Laura W. (Robinson) Snitchler. He served in WWII with the U.S. Coast Guard and Merchant Marines aboard the SS John L. Elliott the Marine Devil, the Robert L. Hill, the Emma Willard and the Little Big Horn. Following the war, he worked at the Parish Alford Plant in Rock Falls and moved to the Tampico, IL. area, where he and his family farmed for 24 years. Moving back to Rock Falls in 1972, he worked at the former Roxite Plant. From there he moved to the Aurora, IL area, where he worked for All Steel. Horace found great joy in attending his sons sports events and being involved in their activities including serving as a past Boy Scout Troop Treasurer in Tampico, IL. Surviving are his sons, Gary M. and his wife, Kathy Snitchler of Cambridge, IL, Stephen K. and his wife, Betty Snitchler of Dixon, IL, Scott A. Snitchler of Aurora; his two brothers, Olin and his wife, Cheryl Snitchler of Sterling, IL, and Percy Snitchler of Berwyn, IL; his three sisters, Doris Cook of Big Lake, MN, Orvetta Morger of Peoria, IL, and Bonnie Meiners of Lyndon, IL; his grandsons, Tom and his wife, Sarealia Snitchler, Eric and his wife, Heidi Snitchler; and granddaughters, Amy and her husband, Jeremy Lovekamp, Cally Norbo and Nicolette Norbo; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Mary Pierce, Lavonne Haskett, Geraldine Barker, Walter Snitchler, Mildred Snitchler and Bernice Frump; and one grandchild. Funeral Service will be Friday, March 26, 2004 at 2:00 PM in the McDonald Funeral Home and Crematory in Rock Falls, IL. Military Rites will follow outside the facility. Visitation is Friday from 1-2 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a Memorial has been established in his memory to Montmorency School, Rock Falls.
