Tampico - Gertrude “Trudy” Branson, age 97, of Lafayette, Indiana and formerly of Tampico, Illinois died Sunday, December 7, 2014 At St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette.
Trudy was born October 17, 1917 in Milltown, Wisconsin, the daughter of John and Martha (Claussen) May. She was united in marriage to Kermit Branson on June 26, 1942 in Jacksonville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 24, 1983. She was a graduate of Illinois College in 1939. There she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Trudy worked as a teacher in Nebo, Illinois and Tampico. She taught English, French and Latin for over 20 years. She was a member of the Tampico United Methodist Church and the Martha Circle at the church. Trudy loved to read and listen to books. She was a ruthless bridge player and in her younger years enjoyed golf. 
She is survived by one son, Gary (JoAnne) Branson of St. Simon’s Island, Georgia; her step granddaughter Tamara (Patrick) Bray, of Castle Rock, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister, Nina. 
Visitation will be held Friday, December 12, 2014 from Noon until 2:00p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Tampico, with Reverend Leanne Keate from the Tampico Methodist Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Tampico United Methodist Church.
