RAYMOND D. VERDICK, age 68, of Rock Falls, Illinois died Monday, August 25, 2014, at home surrounded y his family.

Raymond was born July 10, 1946, the son of Dean and Doris (Hansen) Verdick, in Sterling, Illinois. He married Edith Miller on September 24, 1966, in Fort Riley, Kansas. She preceded him in death on August 16, 1999. Raymond served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a Crane Mechanic with Northwestern Steel and Wife Company for 35 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 2783 and the American Legion Post #0902 in Rock Falls. Raymond loved to spend time outdoors and was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by one son; Gale (Stacy) Verdick of Aurora, Illinois, one daughter; Sandy (Tom) Garcia of Aurora, Illinois; six grandchildren: Sara, Jessica and Jenna Verdick and Tommy, Joey and Edith Garcia all of Aurora; his special friend Pam Stephens of Rock Falls; four sisters; Barbara (Marvin) Bohnert of Joliet, Illinois; Betty (Steve) Snitchler of Dixon, Illinois; Helen Blackert of Rockford, Illinois and Lois (Randy) Temple of Morrison, Illinois; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Edith. .Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. Burial will take place in Tampico Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the funeral home in Walnut.
