 Doris M. Lancaster July 4, 1921 - May 15, 2016, Doris M. Lancaster, 94, formally of Erie, IL, died Sunday, May 15, 2016, at River Pointe Assisted Living in Moorhead, MN. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at the Erie United Methodist Church, Erie, IL. 

 

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Monday, May 30th at Gibson - Bode Funeral Home, Erie.

Burial will be in the Erie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Erie United Methodist Church, or the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan, IL.

Doris was born July 4, 1921, in Spring Grove, MN, the daughter of Melvin and Clara (Bergh) Trehus. She graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1938. Doris married Russell Lancaster on June 25, 1944, in Spring Grove, MN. Before her marriage, she was employed as a bookkeeper for Hardware Mutual in Minneapolis, MN. In Erie, she was the bookkeeper for Lancaster Implement, owned and operated by her husband and father-in-law, for Erie Bowl, also a family business, and for George Pelletier Insurance. In 1986, she retired from Whiteside FS in 1986 where she had been the bookkeeper for many years. In retirement, Doris enjoyed visiting with her friends, going to the pool in Prophetstown for water exercise, attending Bible studies at Erie United Methodist Church where she was a member. She was also a member of the Eastern Star - Erie Chapter. She loved and cherished her cat Ole, who was at her side when she died.

She is survived by her children, David Lancaster, Troy, MI; Mary (Donald) Rice, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Anna (Zach) Swallow, Sarah Rice, Keith Lancaster, Scott Lancaster; 2 great-grandchildren; and her beloved cat, Ole. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell; and brother, Marvin Trehus.
