FLORENCE I. WALDBUSSER, 102, of Prophetstown, IL, died Friday, May 27, 2016, at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center in Prophetstown.

Florence was born June 4, 1913, in Prophetstown to Jay and Lillie (Rhodes) Dorathy. She was educated in the rural one-room schools around Prophetstown and was a 1930 graduate of Prophetstown High School. She attended Northern IL State Teacher’s College – now Northern IL University – in DeKalb, IL. She married Ernest Waldbusser on February 5, 1938, in Davenport, IA. Florence taught in various one-room schools in the area. She was then a teacher’s aide at Lyndon Elementary School and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Leon United Methodist Church in Prophetstown and was active in the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and baking.

Survivors include one daughter, Jana (Neil) Oppendike of Prophetstown; one son, Gary Waldbusser of Myrtle Beach, SC; two grandchildren, Kevin (Chris) Oppendike and Karen (Kevin Sproul) Holder; three great-grandchildren, Christopher (Liz) Chamberlain, Megan Wangelin and Andrew Wangelin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, who passed away on January 25, 2015 .

FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 2, 2016, at the Leon United Methodist Church – Prophetstown, IL

OFFICIATING: Rev. Jan Shaulis – Pastor of the Leon United Methodist Church – Prophetstown, IL

VISITATION: 9:30 AM until the time of the service, Thursday, June 2, 2016, at the Leon United Methodist Church – Prophetstown, IL.

INTERMENT: Riverside Cemetery – Prophetstown, IL

A memorial to the Leon United Methodist Church has been established.
