FLOYD L. BENNETT

Sterling - Floyd L. Bennett, 89, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016.

He was born April 11, 1927, in rural Whiteside County, the son of Leonard and Emily (Gruber) Bennett. He married Janet R. Verbout on March 19, 1949, at Sacred Heart Church in Sterling. She died Aug. 11, 2015. He was employed for more than 47 years in the office at Frantz Manufacturing Co. in Sterling. He served in the Navy for 3 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling and served on the finance committee for several years. He was a past member of Sterling Junior Chamber of Commerce and Sterling Rotary Club. He enjoyed gardening and golfing, and along with  his wife, Janet, enjoyed camping and traveling throughout the various United States and Canada. 

Survivors include his son, Dale (Margaret) Bennett of Elkhart; his daughter, Lind (Charles) Crisanti of Grayslake; one brother, Raymond Bennett of Rock Island; one sister, Helen Coats of Ozark, Missouri; grandchildren, Charles Crisanti Jr., Jennifer Silasiri, Dominic Bennett, Matthew Bennett, and Kathrin Bennett; great-grandchildren, Samuel Crisanti, Andrew Crisanti, Ryan Silasiri, and Ella Silasiri; and many nieces and nephews.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; son, Lee Bennett; three sisters, Louise Hardi, Iola Hammelman, and Alice Bennett; and great-grandson, Miah Salasiri. 

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, and Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sterling, with theRev. Bruce Ludeke officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Newman Central Catholic High School.
