Charlotte A. Wasson
ROCK FALLS – Charlotte Anna Wasson, 96, of Rock Falls, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017.
Charlotte was born March 13, 1921, in Blunt, South Dakota, to William and Kitty (Clink) Wells. While she was still a toddler, her mother passed away, so she was cared for by her maternal grandmother, Charlotte Clink, at her home in Amboy. She also lived briefly with her aunt, Nettie Musser, and her family in Sublette. She was later cared for by her aunt and uncle, Maggie and Sam Musser. She told many stories of carefree summers growing up in those little towns. She married Edwin Wasson, and they farmed near Amboy for a few years, and in Richland County, Wisconsin. They later moved to Rock Falls. He preceded her in death in 1984.

For most of her adult years, she had to work away from home. One of her first jobs was at Green River Ordnance Plant during World War II. In later years, she worked at Frantz Manufacturing, Geyers in Rock Falls, and General Electric Co. in Morrison, retiring in 1983.

When she retired from working, she was able to indulge in some creative hobbies. She loved to garden, landscape paint in oils, and build and reupholster furniture. She loved to watch her beloved Chicago Cubs play, either on TV, or at Wrigley Field. She was thrilled to see them win the 2016 World Series. If you challenged her to a game of Scrabble, she would almost always win. Her feline companions, Kokomo and Cutie Pie, gave her much pleasure, and she will be greatly missed by them.

She is survived by daughters, Vernice (Dennis) Morath of Tampico and Vicki (Carl) Spielman of Harmon; grandchildren, Melissa (Jack) Braggo of Amboy, Marcia (John) Widolff of Tampico, Michelle (Brad) Kelsey of Davenport, Iowa, Brad (Jade) Spielman of Ankeny, Iowa, and Kirk (Lindsay) Spielman of Sterling; a special niece, Katherine (George) Aynillian of Libertyville; 12 great-grandchildren, Heather Johnson, Kris Wilcoxen, Anna Wilcoxen, Dan Widolff, Drew Widolff, Jared Dietz, Kristin Dietz, Peyton McCafferty, Tyler McCafferty, Ellie Spielman, Cayman Spielman, and Saxton Spielman; four great-great-grandchildren, Harper and Augie Johnson, and Quinn and Caia Widolff; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Joseph, William, Donald, Florence, Viola, and a sister in infancy; and one grandson, Phillip Morath.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, and the funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at Tampico United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Leanne Keate officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Sublette.
