Mr. John D. McKenzie Jr. age 79, of 320 Red Oak Road; Walnut, Il. died Saturday evening (Oct. 28,2006 at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton, Il.

Mr. McKenzie was born on November 17, 1926 near Tampico, Il. the son of John D. and Edna Mae Richardson McKenzie Sr. He was employed for many years as a custodian at The Bureau County Court House. He served in the tank corp. in The U.S. Army during W.W. II and he was united in marriage to Gladys Dwyre on Feb. 24,1953 at The First Congregational Church in Spring Valley, Il. He was a member of the Princeton VFW, The Walnut American Legion Post #179, and The Walnut Masonic Lodge #722 AF & AM.

He is survived by his wife Gladys of Walnut, Il. and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday at 10:30 AM in St. John’s Catholic Church in Walnut with Rev. Dan Wilder, pastor officiating and Rev. Brian Moore and Rev. Paul Nolden assisting. Burial will be in Yorktown Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6-8 PM in The Garland Funeral Home in Walnut with a prayer service at 7:45 PM. A MEMORIAL HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED IN HIS MEMORY TO THE WALNUT AMERICAN LEGION POST #179.
