Mary Ellen Gholson, age 95, of 1501 Heritage Lane, Sterling, Illinois died Friday (Dec. 22,2006) at her home in Sterling. Mrs., Gholson was born on January 7, 1911 in Tampico, Il. the daughter of Dr. H.A. and Nellie Aldrich Terry. She was united in marriage to Augustus “Bus” M. Gholson on June 8,1935 at St. Mary’s rectory in Tampico.

He preceded her in death on April 21, 1989 She was a 1928 graduate of Mount St. Clair Academy in Clinton, Iowa, a 1931 graduate of Mount St. Clair College and she attended Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Il..

She was a school teacher at Reeves School, a country school near Tampico from 1931through 1936. She was also a member of Royal Neighbor’s of America since 1947, a member of The American Legion Auxiliary in Tampico since 1950, and a member of the Mount St. Clair Alumni Association. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tampico and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Mrs. Gholson is survived by 2 sons Terry Gholson of Sterling, Il., and Robert (Deanna) Gholson of Freesboro, Tennessee, 1 daughter Judy Hill of Whittier, California; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 3 brothers.

Funeral prayer services will be conducted on Thursday at 9:30 AM in The Garland Funeral Home in Tampico followed by mass of Christian burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tampico at 10:00 AM with Rev. Louie Tosto officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Tampico. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6-8 PM in The Garland Funeral Home with the rosary being recited at 7:30 PM. A MEMORIAL HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED IN HER MEMORY TO ST. MARY’S CHURCH AND THE TAMPICO AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION.
