Walnut - Harold A. Eckberg, age 85 , of 308 S. Second Street, Walnut, Illinois died Friday, February 01, 2008, at the Walnut ManorNursing Home.

Harold was born on October 23, 1922 in Walnut, Illinois, the son of Olaf and Ida(maiden name if known) Eckberg. He was united in marriage to Gertrude Raker on March 17, 1946 in Princeton, Illinois.

He served in the United States Army during WW II earning the bronze star for heroism. Later he farmed south of Walnut for many years and worked at Walnut Farm Equipment until his retirement.

He was a member of the Walnut Community Bible Church and the Walnut American Legion Post #172.

He is survived by his wife Gertrude Eckberg of Walnut, Illinois; three daughters Karen (Leland) Johnson of Winnebago, Illinois, Julie (Michael) Hubbell of Dixon, Illinois, Angela (Jody) Davis of Walnut, Illinois; one son Rev. Ronald (Judy) Eckberg of Erie, Illinois; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren ; one brother Lester Eckberg of Princeton, Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and seven brothers.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Walnut Community Bible Church with the Rev. Ronald Eckberg, pastor of Erie Evangelical Free Church of Erie and Pastor Eldon Cook pastor, of the Walnut Community Bible Church, co-officiating.

Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Princeton, Illinois.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Walnut Community Bible Church.

A MEMORIAL HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED IN HIS MEMORY TO THE WALNUT MANOR NURSING HOME.

WALNUT — Harold A. Eckberg, 85, of 308 S. Second St., Walnut, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, at the Walnut Manor Nursing Home.

Born Oct. 23, 1922, in Walnut to Olaf and Ida Eckberg, he married  Gertrude Raker March 17, 1946, in Princeton. She survives.
