Samuel C.  Hilger Rites Held Monday
 
Prophetstown: - Funeral services for Samuel C. Hilger, 92, who died Friday in Community General Hospital, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Gardner Funeral Chapel. The Rev. David McCleary, assistant pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church of Sterling, officiated and burial was in the Tampico Cemetery.
 
Mrs. L. M. Dingman was at the organ for services in the chapel.
 
Pallbearers were Paul Hilger, Owen Vetter, John Noon, Donald Noon, Keith Lester and George Partridge. Flowers were handled by the Hillcrest Greenhouse.
 
Samuel Christopher Hilger was born Dec. 7, 1870 in Henry County, the son of Fred and Mary Meyer Hilger. He was educated in the Hooppole schools and was married to Lillian Mae Noon of Tampico in 1907.  They farmed in the Hooppole, Prophetstown and Tampico communities for many years.  For the last 4 1/2 years he resided at the Riverview Nursing Home.
 
Surviving are two sons, Clinton Hilger of Sterling, and John Hilger of Prophetstown; one brother, Benjamin Hilger of Hooppole; and three grandchildren.
 
He was preceded by his wife, one son, a daughter, four brothers and one sister.
