Mr. Meredith was born in Guernsey County, Ohio, but removed to Marshall county, Illinois, in 1887. While there he married  Miss Minnie Cusac, Sept. 17, 1891, and they removed to Whiteside county in March, 1896, where Mr. Meredith engaged in farming.

In company with his brother, he bought the city market from Jake J. Bleitz in 1897 it being then located where Parent's furniture store now stands. They bought the building and ground from J. C. Paice and removed to the present location in 1900. In 1908 Mr. Meredith purchased his brother's interest in the business.

He handles fresh, salted, and smoked meats, oysters, fish and game, general groceries, fruits confectionery, cigars and tabacco.

He is always in the market for choice cattle, hogs, lambs, sheep and hides. The business has more than doubled in the past few years. "Quality and Cleanliness: is the motto of the city market.
