Articles & Local History > 1913 - Lights Not Needed on Rigs

Tampico Tornado, August 21, 1913

The report current that all buggies and other horse drawn vehicles are now compelled to carry lights like automobiles proves to be a fake pure and simple probably gotten up by some fellow who had a mess of buggy lanterns to sell. In a letter from Secretary of State Harry Woods to the firm of McKenzie & Olson. Mr. Woods says that Illinois has no law requiring lights on vehicles. Young fellows according to that are at liberty to do their sparking without hanging three or four lanterns around.
