PASTOR AND FAMILY HONORED AT PARTY

Rev. and Mrs. Palm Given Farewell Party Last Thursday

 

A farewell party was given last Thursday evening in the basement of the Methodist church in honor of Rev. and Mrs. F. E. PALM and daughter Ruth Ann who left Friday for Chicago where they will take their new duties after serving this community for the past three years. Over a hundred enjoyed a picnic supper served at 6:30.

 

Rev. J. C. WEIR offered prayer. At the close of the meal several short talks were given, E. W. MEREDITH acting as toastmaster, Rev. and Mrs. J. C. WEIR of the Christian church spoke briefly of their pleasure of working with Rev. and Mrs. PALM, as did Mrs. R. E. CLEARWATERS of the Baptist church. Rev. CLEARWATERS was out of town. Prof. E. W. VICKREY spoke for the school; R. E. McKENZIE for the business men; G. L. MURRAY for the Golf Club; Mrs. Anna HERTENSTEIN for the Ladies Aid and Mrs. L. E. CHAPIN for the Harmony Club. Mayor M. H. PARENT also spoke briefly and H. H. COLBY gave a short report on the conference.

 

Mrs. Edward FULLERTON, president of the ABC Sunday school class presented Mrs. PALM, who was a member of the class with a gift. Miss Carolyn AVERY, president of the Upsilon Lambia Sunday school of which Mrs. PALM was the teacher, presented her with a gift. Mrs. PALM responded. Little Miss Ruth Ann was presented a gift by Mrs. Lovina R. BOOTH . Rev. PALM then gave a short talk expressing their regret at leaving the many friends they had made here after which Rev. Warren MAXWELL who arrived late with his wife and two sons was introduced and spoke a few words. The rest of the evening was spent in visiting.

 

The ladies who served the supper were: Mrs. L. E. CHAPIN, Mrs. E. W. VICKREY and Miss Beryl DAVIS.
