My family and I went thru Tampico a few days back and we really loved the town! We noticed the house at this address that was up for sale. It looks magnificent and we were wondering if there was any significant history to it or maybe anyone that may have lived there. I navigated thru your site and was very impressed with the history and genuine caring that people seem to have for the town. I found it very interesting! Thank you in advance for any help or info regarding the residnce.

I'm pretty sure you are refering to the A. T. Glassburn house (we call it the "Castle House"). A. T. was the son of Tampico's founding father, J. W. (aka: John Wayne) GLASSBURN. J. W. first built the brick house, just north of it for himself, and then built the "castle house" for his son.

A family history page on this site shows both homes. J. W.’s house looks a little different now, since the porches have been enclosed.

Thanks so much for the info!! I kind of figured it had something to do with someone important to the history of Tampico. Just wondering if someone from the Glassburn family still owned the home and/or lived in it up until the home was put up for sale last month. Thanks again for your time and research on the "castle house".

I asked our president about the house. Here is her response:
Denise,
Don and Evelyn Taylor have been the current residents, until his death this
past fall. Before that Andersons lived there. I can't remember who all were
there, but Dave & Kathryn Cain lived in part of the house at one time (they
had it divided into 2 apartments)also Charles and Ivean Aldrich lived there
(he was a mayor)and Bill Clay family (he ran Lumber Yard before Kermit
Branson). It had to have been before the 40's when a Glassburn was there.
Don't know if Margaret would know anymore or not, but if I get a chance,
will try to find out.
Joan

(Note: Margaret was married to Gordon Glassburn)

I found this house on Oldhouses.com and it is beautiful. I was wondering if the house is zoned (or could be zoned) for a business? (perhaps a bed and breakfast) Or is it in the middle of a residential area?

Sorry to hear about the vandalism.

Hi essany1,
I don't know for sure, but when I first moved to Tampico and wanted to start a B&B of my own, I was told that all of Main street was zoned for business! You should check with the village to make sure.

I have been told it is zoned D-2 and that you could have a business in the home.

This is a beautiful house, my hubby and I have taken great care to restore the house back to its original grandeur. The winter was spent improving the home futher, it really is a showpiece now. All of the oak floors have been restored, they are lovely and a very unusual pattern. It is an exquiste and beautiful home to live in.
