Dear Denise,

My family file goes back with a connection to the Reuben Davis and Elizabeth H. Work family. I understand that one of the Davis children married a McCabe, so I did a little looking for Owen McCabe. 1870 census, Tampico Township, Owen is a farmer, born, Ireland, age 40. (B. ? 1830) Wife Kate, age 24, also b. Ireland. Children; daughter age 7, son John age 5 and another son James age 2. All three children b. Illinois. It could be that the names of his children came from the family listed below.

There is a ton of Owen McCabe's in the census searches. One hint of a Owen McCabe in the 1850 census, in PA., Wayne Co., Mount Pleasent records. Bernard McCabe age 40, b. Ireland. Wife Ann, age 40. (The whole family, b. Ireland) 7 children. (I'll list three) Owen age 19, and brothers John age 5, and James age 14.

Les & Jack,
THANK YOU very much for your help. Jack, you're right about there being a lot of "Owen McCabe's" in the census records. I was really hoping one of those seemingly benign little tidbits in the TORNADO might provide some link to the two families. Other than that, it seems we would have to follow the family back two more generations, to see if they were possibly cousins. Also need Owen's parent's names. The lady researching this is checking with St. Mary's to see if the parental info may be in sacramental records (he was buried in St. Mary's, Tampico). Unfortunately, they are very slow to respond to requests. If I find anything, I will post it to keep the request updated. I do thank both of you for your responses.

My friend is doing some extensive research on the McCabe family. I directed her to this message, I hope she has some useful information. Eleanor McCabe (daughter of Emma McCabe) is still living in the Chicago metro area. She currently owns land in Section 11 of Fairfield township. The McCabes are related to the Thomas Burden family--if you look up the Burden Biography you will come across decent McCabe history. A few members of the McCabe family were also teachers at Burden School in Fairfield Township. Owen and James McCabe purchased land in Section 34 and 35 of Tampico Township in 1856 (I believe). This is the southern tip of Tampico Township resting just north of Fairfield Township.

Hopefully she can provide you with anymore questions you may have.

Hello Denise,
This is Janet Burke I was looking on the Tampico Site. I saw the postings for Owen McCabe, and I had emailed with Marilyn @ the Sterling Library a while ago.
Owen McCabe was married to my husbands GG-Aunt Katherine Burke McCabe.

I have been to the courthouse and have seen all of the land transfers. None were between Wm and Owen...and None were between John and Wm. But there were many between Owen, John and James.
In the family what we knew was that my husbands family had come from Mayo, Ire to Canada. they lived there for around 20 years and made their way to Illinois.
I was told that Owen and Katherine had met in Canada, he had lived in Nova Scotia until his mother passed(but, he was born in Ireland). He moved on to Illinois and Katherine was living with a family that was in Walnut, helping care for a widower and all his children. When they got married she was only 16 and her mother had to give written consent...of which I have a copy, from Bureau County Court House.

I did find this DNA project....
Owen McCabe-

It would be very interesting if any decendants of Owen and Katherines were interested,

www.familytreedna.com/public/McCabe/ take a look.

Hopes this helps a little.
Janet

Just an FYI - We also have an extensive Family History on Michael "Mike" McCabe, 1820-1888 and Johannah "Hannah" Maloney, 1837-1889 & of their descendants, compiled by Genevieve Mary McCabe Ladwig, assembled in 1992 with research work also done by Patricia McCabe Clark. I hope to at least post her "Introduction" pages very soon in our FAMILY HISTORY section of site.
