Denise,
My sister and I were born in Colorado Springs but we have traced some of our ancestors on our Grandmother's side back to Buda, IL. I now live in NWIndiana and my sister is coming out here next week and we will be coming to Buda to gather information. We would like to get as much information as possible from you to find out where we can start. I have gone through this website and I do not see either family names listed.
Information I do have is: Stephen Hoxey Foster (Father of)
George Foster (My great-grandfather)
Henry P. Andrews and Susan Lewis Nash Andrews were parents of Hattie Belle Andrews (My great-grandmother)and Charlie Andrews.

George Foster married Hattie Belle Andrews and were parents of: Hope Nash Foster (my grandmother)

Can you help us?

Donette,
Let me snoop around the archives at the historical building and see if we have anything. Buda is not really our juristiction, but so often we have information from surrounding areas.

Two places you will want to visit are the Bureau County Genealogical Society in Princeton and the Walnut Library, in Walnut. The Walnut library has a tiny little room for their genealogy of the area, but it also includes surrounding towns in the county. If I can get there in next few days, I will see if I can find anything for you. It is just a little treasure trove. You may need to be a little assertive in your searches there. I found a wonderful book, that was part of a stack of books that were holding up a shelf! Lots of little nuggets of info in there! The BCGS does not house any photos and very few family genealogies. They have indexed all of their newspapers, which they also have on microfilm on site. You should contact them ahead of time on your interests. They can let you know what, if anything, in advance they have and can have everything at the ready for you! Very nice and accommodating facility and people! They also have cemetery lists for all of Bureau County!

If I find anything else, I will, of course, let you know. Good luck!

Just looking at our 1876 & 1910 wall maps of Bureau County, I can see the two names as owners of land.

Isthere anything specific you want me to search for? When you are in the area, email or call me and I can be sure someone can help you in the Family History Library at our historical society. Denise, 815-438-2065 or cell: 815-590-2065.

BUDA - Schools
In 1855, school was held in a house now owned as a residence by Franklin Foster. The teacher was Jacob Miller, present County Superintendent, who had an attendance of over fifty pupils. Here education was maintained for they south of Buda some four or five years, when the present fine structure was erected. It will accommodate two hundred and fifty pupils. The attendance is now one hundred and eighty-four. Mr. J. N. Wilkinson is superintendent, having four assistants.

BUDA - Churches
Union Church. Meetings were held by the persons forming this Church for two or three years previous to the organization in March, 1858. This was effected at the house of Joseph Foster, at the time when his house was not fully completed. the present pastor, Elder Covell, preached on this occasion, and has remained with them during all these years. Moses Stephens and wife, Daniel Loverin, Moses Loverin and wife, Joseph B. Webb and wife, and some twenty-five others, united at this time. Services were held in the school-house until their church was erected. Its dedication took place in December following the organization. The congregation has grown to a membership of nearly 200. It holds no ecclesiastical relation with any sect. The Sabbath schools numbers about eighty scholars, the superintendent of which is Dr. J. Richards.

The Congregationalist Church was organized October 17, 1856, at the house of Joseph Foster, with the following members; Franklin Foster, Joseph Foster, William F. and Mrs. M. F Randall, and Mrs. Harriet Foster.

(Note: More churches are listed, but I do not see the surnames of Foster or Andrews listed)

My sister and I will be in the area later today. We were planning to stay into tomorrow but there is a storm coming into our area early tomorrow morning so need to get back before it does whatever it will do.

We would like to see if we could find the family farms and possible cemetaries. I am close enough to come back over later but my sister is flying in from Colorado and she is the one who has really been doing the work up until now on the history.

All who have furnished information and helped us, thank you. I can be reached today on my cell 219-929-8992.

Donette,
You said you checked the website for ANDREWS & FOSTER but did not find them. However, I did a site search and got 88 hits. I have transcribed one of bios on S. H. and another on George.

The historical society is closed on weekdays except by appointment. Spring Break has started, so with kids home and preparing for Easter this weekend, not many of us will be around.

Good luck on your visit.
