Due to the expanding interest in the HEINTZELMAN line (from the DOW and SHERE) messages, I thought it might be good to start a new thread for the HEINTZELMAN messages.
I have worked up the family tree going back to George Albert & Kate HEINTZELMAN from information I had and that found on the internet. I sent the descendant tree for that line to Sharol M. (a HEINTZELMAN descendant) and to Denise so that she can post the tree in the Family History section.

Sharol has submitted the following photo:She also writes: 'Seeing as how there is becoming some interest in the Heintzelman family, I am sending on a picture of my grandfather's stone from the cemetery in Hayward where he is buried. I am going to call the funeral home where his funeral arrangements were held, and find out if I can get a copy of anything they have on file......"Darlene," has apparently become a family name per Bernadine's family, although, it was Viola's middle name, Bernie had named her daughter Darlene, and Viola's son David had a daughter named Darlene. David passed away of heart failure the year after his mother died. He was the youngest in their family.'

She is waiting to hear from other relatives that may have more information.

Hi Everyone,

Denise, if you get Nellie's obituary, I will be forever grateful. I called the funeral home where I believe her arrangements were made, but they were busy at the time, and said they'd call back. No call so far. The newspaper in Coquille doesn't have anything archived back to 1966, and I was unable to find anything in the archives from the newpaper in the next town. I am in hopes of checking for the information at the newspaper in person when I'm in Oregon this summer. I'm also hoping to find Bernadine's obituary to add to the Shere and the Heintzelman information.

Monday I contacted the funeral home in Hayward that took care of my grandfather, Roy Heintzelman's arrangements. I was very pleased to learn there were two pages of notes on file from when the arrangements were made. I should have that in a day or two and will add that information to the message board.

Also, after Les sent me the information he had gathered on the Heintzelman family, I was able to add the information I got from Kenny Heintzelman back in 1987. He died in Oct. 1988.

I have made contact with the daughter of Emery Heintzelman and to date, we've been playing phone tag. I finally wrote her a letter yesterday and sent my email address in case she has email. Am hoping to hear from her soon.

My brother John may have some located some other information dating back a bit farther. He said he's read over the past few emails concerning the Heintzelman's and he has gone past George Albert Heintzelman. He said that it appears his father was Johan Dietrich Heintzelman, who was born in Holland and his wife's name was Elizabeth. He hasn't found anything out on her yet.

Thanks for all the help. Hope to meet you folks sometime. John and I am looking forward to getting together with Deb and her aunt sometime this summer.

Sharol

I am the great granddaughter of Nellie Darlene Heintzleman.
My name is Paula K. Knight and I was born Paula K. Buckely. My grandmother was Viola Darlene Buckley. I was given this site by another family member. My Grandfather who was married to Viola Darlene Buckley had scrolls that he had done geneology of the family and when he died they were left with me. I know that there has been some question on my great grandmother's name. It is listed on my grandmother's birth certificate as Nellie D. Shere and her father as David Roy Heintzelman. My gr grandmother is listed as a housewife and gr grandfather as a telephone lineman. I have original certificate of death for David Roy Heintzleman. I have a copy of the death certificate of Nellie Darlene Heintzelman. I know that growing up I lived with both my grandma Viola Darlene Buckley and gr grandma Nellie Darlene Heintzelman. I am sending all this info onto Sharol Molland(Heintzelman) who gave me this site and she is posting info and asked if I had any of these things. I do right now I also have the Heintzelman family bible. I have been in the hospital for the last 6 weeks so I am having her post this stuff but if u have questions just email me at pkknight2@aol.com. Paula Knight(Buckley)

I also have a lot of pictures of people I do not know that were in photo albums that I inherited when my grandparents died. I also live in the house they built in the early 50's. So there are a lot of pictures. I will try and get this downloaded to my computer.

Hi Paula!
How great to have you on board! Welcome! If you like, you can email me any photos or documents (such as death Certs, etc.) you would like to share, even ones that aren't identified and I will add them to the Heintzelman Photo Album. Since this is getting a lot of attention, there may be others that may be able to identify some of the photos. Email the tahs@thewisp.net or for large files, try my ddm1050@hotmail account. Please put something in the Subject line that lets me know it is TAHS related or it may get junked!

It seems that Sharol has found a copy of the obit, which can be found on our on-line photo album and is also transcribed in our obituary section. Click on photo to enlarge, read details. If you have g-mail, you can also leave a comment under photo. Or, you can also post on this message board.

I am confused (so easy to do these days....) Is it H-E-I-N-T-Z-E-L-M-A-N OR H-I-E-N-T-Z-E-L-M-A-N? Depending on whose obituary you read, it has been spelled both ways.

I have listed David & Nellie's in our Obit Index with both spellings.

I also hope to contact the RAOGK in hopes of catching her before she does the look-up for the obit on Nellie. I won't ask for outside help any more.

Paula- it is so good to hear from you! I am Temple's grand daughter- you g grandma Nellie's half sister! As I have told Sharol I just barely remember Aunt Nellie - I was around 4 years old when she came to visit my grandma- and according to my Aunt Janice_ Temple's daughter- My grandma was killed in the car accident about a month later- someone in the family went toJoliet and picked her up and she came back for the funeral but I do not remeber that.
I know my aunt Janice remembers Vi and if I am correct Judy is your mother?. She has a picture of Judy with a small child- possibly you? I will have to get to her house and go through pictures again.
Since you lived with her some would you mind sharing what kind of person she was? I know my from what I remeber was such a kind person and generous- always loved going to Grandma's house! I was very small asa child and grandma was so tall! Was Aunt Nellie tall too?

H-E-I-N-T-Z-E-L-M-A-N is the spelling that we always used. I think the other spelling was done in error by someone struggling to write it and being confused on where to put the E's.

Deb, my grandmother was a very gentle, caring person. As I remember her, she was always dressed very neatly and her hair was never out of place. She always wore a house dress with sensible stocking and shoes, and many times she would have an apron on. Her home was always spotless. I remember her sitting in her chair in her little house crocheting on hankies or crosses for bookmarks, her Bible at her side. I have a vision in my head of her sitting in sunlight in her living room. I also remember that every day she had a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast with a pat of butter and brown sugar, and there were always oatmeal cookies in her cookie jar. She was a very devoted Christian lady, whose faith was everything to her. In fact, she had quite an influence on my brother John, who was baptized in her church.

My daughter Karen was her first great-grandchild and she was thrilled when Karen was born. I have one especially dear picture of her holding Karen and seeming to be in awe. We moved to Wis. in 1963 and I only saw her one more time before she died. Our second daughter was about 14 months old so we have pictures of them taken with her and with my mother's mother. My sister's two little girls are in the pictures, too.

That time went so quickly. Thanks for asking about her. I'm sure that Paula has different memories.

Paula sent me a box that contains some pictures, the scrolls that her grandfather Ed Buckley had started, my grandmother Nellie's birthday book, copies of death certificates, Viola's birth certificate, and other genealogy stuff. I don't know if it's different from what the rest of you have, but I will be studying it over in the next week.

I've sent Denise an email that I scanned of the copies of Nellie and Roy's death certificates today. It's hard to read the copies, but I found that when I printed them out they are both readable.

Later.

I posted earlier after my second cousin Sharol Molland contacted me asking for information on my Grandmother who's Mother was Nellie Darlene Heintzelman. I have my gr-mother's bible and it has family obits in it. I am in the process of locating the bible. As soon as I can I will post the obit. I sent Sharol a box that had Viola Darlene Buckley(Heintzelman)'s diary, birthdate book, pictures, as well as some of obituaries I have. Nellie Darlene Heintzelman is buried here in Coquille, Oregon. I will get up there and take a picture and get it posted soon. Currently I am recovering from brain surgery. I have had 25 in my life. It would be interesting to find out if there is a family history of brain disorders.

This is in response to Debra. Great Grandma Nellie Heintzelman was very religious. She took me to church every Sunday to the First Christian Church in Coquille. She was so sweet and loving. She had such a sweet spirit. She kept up her appearance until she got so sick. The last picture taken of her was at my Grandma Viola Darlene Buckley's home. A photographer was going door to door and she did not want her pic taken. My Grandma fearing it would be the last pics she would get talked her into it. She told them okay but I am not getting all dolled up. She wanted them to just take the picture. So she is dressed in her pink nightgown and her hair is unkempt. Which was not her norm. I remember she died around Christmas. All my cousins and I were on the floor opening presents and the adults said that each one of us stopped opening presents one by one. We all told that we felt a kiss on our cheek. My Grandma told us it was only our Great Grandma Nellie letting us know how much she loved us. We left it at that. Her favorite flowers were lilacs.

I need to go rest.

Paula- thank you for letting me know what my Aunt Nellie was like. I was very young when she was here and really did not know her. Her sister Temple was a very kind & loving person also from what I remember.
It is so kind of you to share infromation with us about Nellie.
I knew you had surgery done but did not realize it was brain surgery.
You do need to get your rest and take care of yourself- the information can wait until you are more recovered,
I do not know if there is a history of brain disorders- records were not well kept on ilness at that time- it may have been something from your Wilsey relatives also which no one knows much about.

People are still responding to my request for information on Nellie Heintzelman. Here are some of their responses on the Rootsweb/Ancestry message boards:

The Oregon Death Index:
Nellie D. "Hientzelman", died 21 December 1966 in Coos County, Oregon. Death Certificate 17486, spouse "David".

For the obit:

The Oregon Historical Society charges $3.25 to search for, copy and send you an obituary. Email the information you have, name, place of death, date of death. Oregon Historical Society Research Library, (503) 306-5240 or libreference@ohs.orgHours: 1-5, Thursday - Saturday

I found several years of the Coquille Valley Sentinel online; however the year of her death were not among those posted.

It did have a March 26, 1970 issue, wherein was a Notice of Filing of Final Account. This was a Final Account in the matter of the administration of the Estate of Nellie Heintzelman and the District Court for Coos County. The Executor of he Estate was Harry A. Slack, Jr.

In a Thursday, June 18, 1970 issue:
Former Resident Dies June 7
Word was received of the June 7 death of Vernon Edward Heintzelman, 54, a former Coquille resident.
Heintzelman had been a resident of Las Vegas for the past 12 years, but had formerly lived in Coquille, where he raised his family. He was a member of the Myrtle Point Saddle Club and was a World War II veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Charma of Las Vegas; a son, John of Beliot, Wis; two daughters, Susie Funk of Coquille, and Sharol Molland of Gillmont, Wis.; three stepsons, Earl R. Harris, and Paul A. Murry; a stepdaughter, Monia Stut, all of Las Vegas; and two sisters, Mrs. Viola Buckley and Mrs Bernadine Knukle of Coquille.

Sharol has added some obits to the SHERE album:
From: "Sharol and Larry"
To: "Denise McLoughlin"
Subject: More obits and a memorial card
Date: Fri 06/06/08 04:32 PM
Paula Knight of Coquille, Roy and Nellie Heintzelman's great-granddaughter, found these items and sent them to me. You will see that the memorial card is for David F. Heintzelman, the father of David LeRoy (Roy) Heintzelman. There is another version of Nellie Shere Heintzelman's obiturary, and of Bernadine Heintzelman, which I have been trying to locate on-line. Apparently, Paula found it in some of her mother's (Viola) things. 1951 David F Heintzelman
1966 Nellie Darlene Heintzelman 1988 Bernadine Kunkle.

FYI - I have added the Heintzelman name to the Shere Family Album on line. Click on photo to open album ~ Denise

Sorry for the multiple posts! I am just now figuring out how we are all related! Some appear to go through the line of David Heintzelman, brother to my (husband's) g-g grandfather George Albert Heintzlman son of George and Catherine Heintzelman. I have been researching this line for 5 years and I am at a loss...a complete brick wall as to who their parents are. Does ANYONE have any documentation or ANYTHING that could lead us to their parents? I have pictures of George Albert Heintzelman if anyone is interested. I know you are probably not direct descendants of him, but I do have some family photographs of him and family reunions and things.

aheintz,
Unless someone posts their email address in message, it is not viewable to public. I, however, do have a list. I can contact DJOregon with your email and link to this msg. thread. If you don't hear from the person in reasonable amount of time, let me know and I will try to contact again.

Also, you never need to apologize about multiple posting - that's what this board is for!!! ;)

Hi Denise I just found your request about Esther Heintzelman. She was a Howlett then married Simon J Newell in 1880. Then she married David Frank Heintzelman in 1889. She had two children with Simon Newell, James M, my grandfather and Simon J Jr. Do not know if she had children with David Heintzelman.
