Just wondering if the Tampico Tornado would have any announcement of the marriage of William Curran and Bridget Breen Jan 14, 1896 in Iowa. They were married in Livermore, Humboldt County IA but Will's parents Thomas and Mary Power Curran lived in the Tampico area. Maybe per chance there was something??

Another brother, Henry lived in Montmorency Twp about the same time.

Thomas and Mary are buried in St. Mary's Cemetery. They were the parents of Henry b 1854-d 1932, Bridget b 1856-d?, William b 1858-d 1916, Thomas b 1860- d?, Ellen b 1863- d?, Michael b 1866- d?, and Mary A b 1862-d?

Always looking for more info on the Curran family

K,

I checked my microfilm and, unfortunately, there was nothing mentioned in the January 18, 1896 Tornado and the January 25th issue was not microfilmed. I looked through the February 1896 issues and also found no mention of the marriage.

Kat. - I'm curious. Is that a different Bridget than the following?:

Tahan, Bridget Curran (William) obituary/ funeral rites 7 Sept 1905;swStandard;2;1;3;2
Tahn, Bridget Curran (William) obituary 5 Sept 1905;1;3
Tahn, Bridget Curran (William) obituary 5 Sept 1905;twGazette:1;3
Tehan, Bridget Curran (William) obituary 5 Sept 1905;Standard;1;3

I'll check our archives, but I think the m/f'd Tornados were from our files, so we may be missing the issue. I'll double check, though.

Also, have you contacted Joan Cooney at the St. Mary's lately? Try catching her at home (not easy - all of her kids are into every sport and she is the transportation!). Every time I see her, she says she has some info on "a Curran" but can't remember exactly what it was without her notes. She lives in Deer Grove (husband is Tom). If you can't find a #, email me and I send it.

Different Bridget, Denise. I have a couple of burial records from St. Mary's, all in Latin of course. One for Mary Power Curran (Maria Curran) d 26 Jan 1899 born in Co Waterford IRE, buried in Tampico (St. Mary's), also one for William (Guilalmo ?) Curran son of Thos Curran & Maria Powers, age 58, ex loco(city?) Vincent IA, d 3 Jan 1916, St. Mary's. Signed by L.X. DuFour, Pastor

I just thought maybe since Will was from the area and had family living there someone would have put something about his wedding in. Will and Bridget had two daughters, Marie b 30 Jul 1898, and my grandmother, Grace Lorainne b 15 Nov 1905. Probably wouldn't find that either. Just checking! You guys are always so prompt!

Hi Kat - I haven't had a chance to get to museum, but hope to make it tomorrow. I'll get back to you on what I find. As for the Gazette Index - are you able to get to the library for copies of them? If not, I can put it on my to-do list for next library trip. Or, you can contact Marilyn at the library. Last I heard - she was "boycotting" all of our Whiteside websites, so don't tell her I sent you or she might not ever send it! (lol)

I'm on vacation next week and I'd love to get to a library up that way. We'll see...

Also, I always think Henry Curran was in Montmorency Twp, but he was in Hahnaman Twp. I was interested in the Devines and O'Neils I found while looking at the Atlas @ Picasa. I have an email friend who was looking for Devines in Henry Co, but they could have just as easily been in Whiteside, not that far. I'll have to get her names againg. She had a picture of their house with all of them in front.

I am so grateful to Sharon Callaghan for lending us her 1872 plat book. Even the Sterling library doesn't have that one. We also have 1893 & 1912, which the library also has. Here is the Hahnaman map: click on photo to open album - click on magnifying glass in upper right corner to enlarge and pan map.

The only wedding posted in the Jan. 18 issue of Tornado is B. Morse-Tillie Olson. We are missing a Jan. 25th issue. I checked the first issue of Feb., but nothing. I thought for sure it would at least be in the "gossip column."
Sorry! Still checking other resources for Currans.

I'll just post as FYI here as I run across info:
In our Funeral Log book, No. 455: Wm. Curran, "ordered by: Henry Curran," age (blank), Cause of Death: Dropsy, Date of Death: Jan. 3, 1916, Date of Burial: Jan. 5, 1916, Paid: $90, Remarks: $10. No other itemizations for him such as Robe-Suit-Wrapper/Price, Embalming & Attendance/Carriages/Flowers/Grave/Vault/. This is very "odd." Even if he were shipped elsewhere, he should have been embalmed here, I would think. I question his actual burial here.

No listing for Mary A. Curran (1910) in Funeral Log. We are missing most of the 1910 newspaper issues, so I could not look up obit for her.

Could not find an obituary for Henry Curran, Feb. 18, 1923.

Gazette Index shows following:
Curran, Thomas obituary 23 March 1927;2;5
Curran, Thomas funeral rites 26 March 1927;6;1
Curran, Henry Mrs. obituary funeral rites 2 Feb 1910;1;3
Curran, Henry Mrs. funeral rites 3 Feb 1910;1;1
Curran, Mary Raynor (Henry) obituary 1 Feb 1910;1;3
Curran, William "Bill" obituary 9 May 1957;6;1
I'll check our 1927 Tornado and get back to you. We don't have this issue for 1910, so you need to get it either from Sterling Library or interlibrary loan, or let me know and I'll get it on my next visit to library.

I was checking the statewide marriage index, saw a couple of marriages I wondered if they connected with my Currans?

LEAHY, DANIEL
CURRAN, BESSIE 1898-02-22 / 00009976 WHITESIDE

ACKERMAN, ROBERT CURRAN,MARY 1892-10-12 / 00008553 WHITESIDE

HAMBLOCK, JOSEPH CURRAN,NELLIE 1899-11-29 / 00010419 WHITESIDE

Anyone know anything about them? I was most interested in the Leahy marriage.

I have info on that - it's at the historical society. I am doing research on the Leahy family for a gentleman in Alabama. I'll post it when I find it in the next day or two.
