An item in the March 19, 1898 Tampico Tornado states that the above were married in Walnut on Wednesday. At that time I didn't know who Zadie Merritt was, now I do. I can't find them on the 1900 census and on the 1910 Jay has been married to Cora for about 11 years, and it shows that it the second marriage for both. What happened to Zadie?

This is what I know about her. On the 1880 Fairfield Twp., Bureau County she is listed as Zadie Newton along with her grandmother Emma(Emily) Newton, her mother Rosella Newton and her great grandmother Lucy Tyrell.

Her mother Rosella married Harvey Merritt November 28, 1880. That is the last that I have found of her mother. The obit for the son of Harvey and Rosella states that he attended schools in Tampico until he was 15 when he moved to Clinton, Iowa.

Zadie's grandmother Emily Newton married William Newell December 1880. I have found their obits on this web site.

Can anyone tell me what happened to Zadie and her mother Rosella?
