JAMES HOGEBOOM
Last Sunday evening a terrible accident took place at Denrock. James HOGEBOOM, a nineteen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John HOGEBOOM, who runs the hotel at that place, met his death in the most horrible manner. He slipped upon the ladder of a box car, while a train was switching, and in stepping slipped and fell beneath the cars and was terribly mangled. When he was found life was extinct. He was carried to his home, and from there the remains were brought to Tampico for burial Tuesday morning. He was attending school at Prophetstown, and a number from that place, as well as here attended the funeral. The services was [sic] held in the M.E. church of this place. Rev. Geo. WELLS officiating, and the remains were interred in the Tampico cemetery.

L.W. DENISON, while attending the ROOSEVELT meeting in Sterling last Saturday was fortunate enough to secure some excellent snap shots of the Governor and Richard YATES. He has one taken at close range while they were enroute from the depot to the Park. Both of the candidates were facing the machine and an excellent exposure was made. He has five different snap-shots and all of them are good ones.

STERLING ROOSEVELT MEETING
Many Tampico people attended the ROOSEVELT meeting at Sterling last Saturday and saw and heard the popular "Teddy." There must have been between two and three hundred people from this township present to take part in the demonstration. "Teddy" was given a cordial reception and his speech, which was broad and patriotic met with a hearty response from the people. Judge YATES, candidate for Governor, also received a hearty greeting and addressed the assemblage, but owing o the hoarseness and strong wind it was with difficulty that he made himself heard. At the close of his speech he proposed three cheers and a tiger for McKINLEY and ROOSEVELT, which were given with a will.
The parade at night, which promised to exceed anything of like character ever given in this part of the state, was interrupted by a downpour of rain and had to be called off in consequence. Many of the marchers were completely soaked before they retied from the ranks, and the Morrison band marched through a steady downpour, playing an inspiring march and apparently unconscious of the storm. The parade would have been over before the store had it been started on schedule time, but a wait was made for the Morrison delegation which was delayed. The Sterling papers claim that there were 12,000 strangers in the city during the day.

Letter from H.H. DOW
The following is an extract from a letter written by Tip DOW to his brother Tom here. It will be read with interest by Tip's many friends here:
You ask if I was coming back there soon. No, I shall not come to that climate as late as this. If I keep my equilibrium and my head don't forget to respond to my desires, I think I will come back there, and "we 'uns and you 'uns" will go back to where our good old mother found us and see if there are any traces of our boyhood days left. So now be a good boy, let the gang walk the gang plank all alone - don't help them to keep you to a broil as that is one thing that keeps you "narvus" see! Well I had a lovely trip, saw lovely and awe inspiring sights; got home safe and sound again.
Well be good; let the gang go to h.... and look for me back about the last of May or the very first of June 1908. See!
Your little brother, Tippie.
