SAYS HE KILLED GLASSBURN
Annawan Shoemaker Alleged to Have Confessed to Murdering Tampico Man
Reports have reached Tampico that a shoemaker who recently died at Annawan confessed before death to the shooting of Fred GLASSBURN some six years ago in a hospital in Indiana. It will be remembered that Mr. GLASSBURN went there for his health and was found dead in his room with five bullets in his body, three of which went through his heart. Medical authorities all agreed that it would have been physically impossible for any man to pull a trigger to send the second bullet into his heart as the first would be death, hence there was no question but that he was murdered. Absolutely no clew could be found and the matter has always remained a deep mystery.
The alleged confession of the shoemaker was that he followed Mr. GLASSBURN to Indiana, shot him down and made good his escape through an open window. The reports that the confession was made come from trustworthy sources but however the relatives here know nothing of it. The matter will be fully investigated by the Tornado and published next week.

He owns a farm there which he rents to the negroes who raise cotton on shares. Before he left he renewed his subscription for 1900.

TAMPICO BOY COMMANDS BIG U.S. BATTLE SHIP
Famous and Historic Battleship Oregon Now in Command J.M. Masson [sic] REEVES
The battle ship Oregon is now in command of a former Tampico young man, J.M. (Mason) REEVES and is stationed off San Francisco during the exposition according to the paper and letters received by F.A. BREWER. The battle ship is open to visitors and the papers state that many are flocking out to see the ship which is dear to all Americans on account of its memorable voyage around the Horn during the Spanish American War reaching Cuba in time to participate in the battle. That former Tampico young man born and raised in the old REEVE place three miles east of Tampico is now in command of this fine vessel is a matter of pride to all Tampico citizens and another indication that Tampico young men always make good wherever placed.

AUTOMOBILE TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OLD.
Just think of it. The first automobile seen in Chicago just twenty-five years ago was ordered off the streets by the police. It was a crude vehicle with high wheels and steam for motor power. It would go all right, but it frightened the horses. About seven or eight miles an hour was the limit of its highest speed. Some change in twenty-five years. Fist came the gasoline engine, then the idea of low wheels and the last the pneumatic rubber tire, and that's what made the automobile's popularity, practicability and permanency.
