Looking for any info on James and Clara Winter Harvey that lived in the Tampico area in the late 1800's. Their children were: Frank, Kathryn, Bertha, Mabel, Burdette, Fred, and Grace. James brother, Michael, was my g.g.grandfather. Anna Harvey, James sister, was married to Reubin Davis and I believe they lived in that area for a period of time. Also a Thomas Harvey that was a brother to James and Anna may have lived in that area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Cliff,
I hope you have done a site-search for DAVIS. We have lots of history on the DAVIS family, mostly submitted by Jack Pritchard. You should be able to gleen pertinent info if you read all of Jack's submissions, including the DAVIS family history. He also posted on several Message Boards, so be sure to read all of his posts on this family.

Cliff,
Cindy Leister links to the WINTER family and has also submitted photos and history on this family. Do a site-search for WINTER. S. B. Winter was one of the first settlers in Tampico, had the first store-front and I think he was one of the first postmen. Don't miss the Winter photo album - I saw several of the names you mentioned in it. http://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.citymax.com/Winter_Family_Album.html

Cindy. I have James E. and Clara A. Winters Harvey as married in Lacon, Illinois on Feb. 03, 1876. The 1880 census shows him as a restuarant keeper in Tampico. The children I have listed for them are: Frank brn. abt. 1872, Kathryn abt. 1877 marrried to a Smith,Bertha abt. 1879 married to Clement, Mabel, Burdette, Fred, and Grace married to Grosvenor. I have Anna Harvey sister to James, married to Reubin Davis and a sister Bridget married to Roth Davis. the Lacon historical society does have some info on Winter, but the name is listed as Winters. I am interested in any info that you have pertaining to James and Clara's children. Also does anyone have a clearer picture of the Winter photo with the Harvey women in it? I have no photos of any of my g.g.grandparents or their children. Thanks for your help.

Cliff, I'm sorry it took so long to respond. I have James E. Harvey b. May 1851 in CON. & died 1924 Liston, Woodbury, IA. His wife Clara Rosetta Winter b. Jul 1850 New Berlin, Union, PA. & d. 1907 Liston, IA.

Grace Harvey was b. 29 Oct 1889 in Iowa and died 1975 in Sioux City, IA. She married Ray Lathrop Grosvenor b.06 May 1885 Dixon Co., NEB. & d. Aug 1980 Sioux City. IA. I also have a Thomas G. Harvey b 1872 IL.; Kathryn M. Harvey b. Jun 1877 Tampico, IL.; John B. Harvey b. Aug 1883 IA.
Yes, I have come across the name Winters also, but have determined that it is Samuel B. Winter Clara's father. He was b. May 1823 Harrisburg, PA. & d. 18 Apr 1915 in Abescon, N.J. Clara's mother is Sarah Ann McNeill b. May 1826 PA. m. 1848 & d. 18 Apr 1874 Tampico, IL. She is buried in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery. I'm going East to N.J. to look for Samuel B. Winter's gravesite May 27 & will be gone for two weeks. I need pictures of Clara & the family too. I have found that by tracking down ancestors is the best way to find them. Do you think the 3 women to the left of my Grandmother are Harvey's?

Talk to you later, Cindy Leister

I went to Pleasantville, N.J. to find Great Great Grandpa's burial site. What a fiasco? It took a day being sent here and there, when we were at the right place to begin with. The lady just didn't want to bother looking up his name. My point is persistance is a virtue. On Samuel Winters death certificate his last name is spelt with an "S" on the end but his 2nd wife Belinda (Caskey) spelt it without the "s". Sadly Samuel Winter's headstone never was put in place. There's a number in the ground. It would be nice if family members would pool some money to buy him one. Section U row 4 plot122 in Pleasantville Cemetery. This cemetery has merged with Atlantic City Cemetery. Cindy Leister

Hi Cindy,
Thanks for the update on the "s" on the end of the name. I have often run across the two spellings. I have only been following the WINTER spelling, when researching, even though I have run across the WINTERS spelling as well. Wasn't sure if it were the same family. Good to know!
