Andy? What kind
Ronald Reagan Birthplace
of pictures are you looking for? Have you seen the Picasa Photo Album on this site? Click on the photo in this message to open the album. Then click on individual photos to enlarge, read details or leave a comment under it.
Have you visited the Reagan web page on this site? The Reagan Birthplace & museum is a different building and organization than we are. Joan Johnson, who is both the president of the Tampical Area Historical Society AND the volunteer coordinator for the Reagan Birthplace can supply you with whatever else you may need. Her contact info is garyjoan@thewisp.net. More contact info is on the Reagan webpage. Go to the TAble of Contents for link to it.
BTW - he can call whereever he wants his "hometown" it doesn't change the fact that he WAS BORN IN TAMPICO! :)

Let me know if you still need more specific info or photos.

Andy,
I was happy to learn that you contacted the volunteer co-ordinator, Joan Johnson. She contacted me to clarify some things and I'm sure she will be contacting you shortly. Briefly - the hotel was where Jack & Nelle stayed before the apartment in town was available. Ron was born in the apartment.

The photo of the little girl climbing through the window was taken within the last few years during one of the tours of the Birthplace. There is a whole story regarding that window, but I will let Joan explain it, since she is the one that does the tours. The little girl in the photo is just a visitor, not related to the Reagans, however, she is a descendant of one of the Tampico pioneer families - the Hixsons.

I think Joan will be sending you the article on Ron's birth. Keep in mind, they did not know it was the birth of a future president!

You will need to get the death announcement somewhere else since the Tornado wasn't publishing then. You can order a copy from the Gazette newspaper for a "local" obit. There are 66 indexed pages of Reagan related stories in the Gazette - here are a few relating to the time of his death:

Reagan, Ronald{^} country says farewell 12 June 2004;A1-A3;1-6*
Reagan, Ronald{^} "sunset of my life" 12 June 2004;A6;1*
Reagan, Ronald{^} locals remember his childhood; funeral 12 June 2004;A11-A13;1-6*
Reagan, Ronald{^} Tampico, Eureka remembers; funeral coverage 13 June 2004;A1&A5;1-6*
Reagan, Ronald{^} more articles by locals 13 June 2004;A8;1-6*
Reagan, Ronald{^} special edition of life 13 June 2004;C1-D1;1-6*

You can contact the Sterling library and order copies:
Sterling Public Library, 102 W. 3rd St., Sterling, IL (815)625-1370, ext 11, director@sterlingpubliclibrary.org

"I think Joan will be sending you the article on Ron's birth. Keep in mind, they did not know it was the birth of a future president!"
Obviously not and thats one of my key research things I want to focus on. As ironic as family legends are (to think about it that sounds like a good research project/book)Who would of known or ever expected Jack his drunken father who has been searching for jobs to say (something along the lines of) "hell that boy may one day grow up to be president"

Thanks for all your help.

Hi Andy,

I have been transcribing the Tampico Tornado from 1886-1920 and so I can help regarding RR's birth announcement. From the Tampico Tornado:

February 10, 1911
John REAGAN has been calling thirty-seven inches a yard and giving seventeen ounces for a pound this week at PITNEY's store he has been feeling so jubilant over the arrival of a ten pound boy Monday

Andy,

I reread your 7:20 posting and noted your comments about President Reagan's father's issues with alcholism. Not only is it interesting that the son of a person troubled with alcoholism can go on to be President of the United States, but we also find that 2 of our Presidents were dope smokers (although one "did not inhale.") The amazing thing is that no matter what one's background is, one can become successful in the United States as long as you are willing to work hard and remain focused.
Soooo,,,work hard, stay focused and someday your parents may say, "I always knew Andy had the makings of becoming President of the greatest country on the plant! We so proud of what he as accomplished!!"
Good luck with your paper.
Les

Which two are this? As much history as I know I'm not familiar with this.

And I suppose it is a good thing he got hooked into jellybeans. Although I'd love to have the jar he used on his desk.

I Was wondering perhaps if you can do a scan. I'm interested particulary with layouts.

Hi Andy,
What is it that you want a scan of? The birthplace? There are postcards of each room of his house. You can see them (and copy them) from our Picasa Photo Album or our Gift Shop.

The rainbow story is wonderful and RR kept this special picture in his desk drawer to keep himself inspired & motivated. The rainbow appears to be landing right on top of the birthplace building where RR was born. The street sign out front also says -"End of Reagan Trail." There is something very poetic about that.....

Andy,
First, Les Niemi was kind enough to submit his copy of the birth announcement in the Tampico Tornado Newspaper.
From Ronald Reagan Birthplace

As for the photo without a person (who happens to be the coordinator for the Birthplace and the President of the TAHS), you will find a photo without her in the REagan photo album!
From Ronald Reagan Birthplace

As for clarification on which building - it is the building where the rainbow appears to be landing on.

You also requested MORE photos. Have you seen the Ronald Reagan Photo Gallery link (different that the Picasa Web album)?:

Here is another photo of the Birthplace and Museum:
From Ronald Reagan Birthplace

I have asked Joan to see if she has a picture of the window. I'll let you know if she has one.
Good Luck on your research and project. Just remember to make it very clear - he was BORN IN TAMPICO! We also have his 4th grade ledger book showing his grades & attendance.

On the day of his funeral - Air Force One flew over Tampico - very low and tipped her wing to us. There is another photo taken from inside AFO as they did this, showing Nancy Reagan waving to "us."
