Hello all!

I was wondering if anyone had any information on Nelson John Adams, my GGGrandfather, who was born in 1842 in Germany and settled in Hinckley, IL with his wife Anna Lawerance (Lorenz). I show records for Nelson up until 1900 census where he isn't present and instead shows Anna -- HoH where it lists her as "Married." I see my GGrandfather there, Nelson "John" Adams and a brother Charles. This must be my GGGrandfather Nelson...as it shows he was born in Feb 1880 which he was on other documents i have. But where is his father Nelson?

I then show an Anna Adams dying in 1930 in Freeport, IL, buried at St. Mary's cemetery in Tampico, IL, next to a Charles Adams. Does anyone know if this Anna Adams IS in fact my Nelson Adams's wife, and if so, where is Nelson? What happened to him after he was on the 1880 census?

Thank you!
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,
Anna's obituary is in the Sterling Gazette. You can probably get it faster than I right now, since I have my daughter in from California and then I am leaving for a reunion in Wisconsin. I don't foresee making it to the Sterling Library (where the Gazette is archived) before the first week of September. I recommend you contact Marilyn Anderson in the Genealogy Dept. of the Sterling Library SPL-Genealogy@comcast.net for a copy of the obit. It is listed as:
Adams, Anna Mrs. funeral rites 24 Dec 1930;12;2(this is the issue date of newspaper, page & column number).

Here is the Library's website for their hours and phone numbers as well. If Marilyn is not able to accommodate you in a reasonable time, get back to me and I will get the obit for you.http://www1.youseemore.com/sterling/ Sterling Public Library

Denise,

Thank you so much! None of those Adams names sound familiar, but who knows, they could be siblings i don't have in my tree.

I had also found a Nelson John Adams death record for that date of 1929...but my question is, how do I know that is him? Possible it's another Nelson Adams? Is there any strong evidence to link him to my guy, i.e. a date of birth on that cert you found? I see that the age is "unknown"....:(

I have a sense that this may not be him, as i found a Nelson Adams with that death date born in 1838 in France...with a different wife.

NAME: Nelson John Adams
SPOUSE: Anna
BIRTH: 24 Jun 1838 - Alsace-Lorraine, France
DEATH: 13 Jun 1929 - Chicago, Cook, Illinois
OTHER: 15 Jun 1929 - Illinois

THanks again!

Stephanie

Hi Denise!

I actually have confirmed that my Nelson John Adams was the one born in Alsace-Lorraine, France as the informant was his granddaughter! So that was huge for me to discover.

Do you happen to have contact information for a Ronald J. Adams who wrote a Newsletter on the Descendants of Frederick Louis Allen? I believe he is a possible relative of mine!

Thanks much!
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,
I also got your email regarding this topic. I only have the information that Mr. Adams posted in the Family History: Prepared by:
Ronald J. Adams
904 E. 12th Street, Apt 3
York, Nebraska 68467-2600
402-362-7152
radamssr@neb.rr.com
The above is what he sent with the letter. A search for current information suggests this may be a more current address: Alternate Information on Ronald J Adams:
7150 Holmes Park Rd
Lincoln NE 68506-4604
Alternate #: 402-805-4456
I think he may be in his 80s now, so a phone call or letter might be necessary.
I don't have any further information. Mr. Adams did not get the information from our archives so you would be better served to contact him. I am not sure if that is still valid information or not.

I am not sure Mr. Adams is still living. If not, I would try one of the larger libraries in the area he lived or possibly the historical/genealogical society.
